Ghost in the Machine (1993) is an American science-fiction horror film directed by Rachel Talalay. The story follows Karl Hochman, a serial killer known as the “Address Book Killer,” who dies after a car accident and an electrical storm causes his consciousness to be transferred into a computer system. Now existing as a digital entity, Karl uses computer networks and electrically powered devices to continue his killing spree, manipulating everything from household appliances to the electrical grid. His victims are connected to Terry Munroe, whose address book Karl previously copied into a computer.

Terry, her son Josh, and computer hacker Bram Walker eventually realize that the killer is operating through technology and attempt to stop him by disconnecting electrical devices and attacking his digital presence. Bram ultimately introduces a computer virus that traps Karl inside a physics laboratory, where an atom smasher destroys him. The film combines horror, technology, artificial intelligence, cyberspace, and the fear of technological dependence, reflecting early-1990s anxieties about increasingly interconnected computers and electrical systems. [/url]
