Hacker (2016), directed by Akan Satayev, is a crime thriller about Alex, a young immigrant in Canada who becomes involved in cybercrime, identity theft, and black-market trading. After initially making money through online traffic generation, Alex teams up with Sye and later Kira, a skilled hacker, expanding their activities through stolen credit cards, fraudulent transactions and Bitcoin. Their criminal activities eventually take them from Toronto to Hong Kong, where they attract the attention of a mysterious figure known as Zed, who operates within the Dark Web. 

The story becomes increasingly dangerous when Zed recruits Alex and Kira for a scheme intended to crash the stock market, using a staged assassination and manipulated online information. After Sye is killed, Alex is arrested and spends two years in prison. The ending reveals that Kira was secretly cooperating with the FBI in an operation to capture Zed, meaning that much of what appeared to be a criminal partnership had another layer. 

The film combines hacking, cybercrime, cryptocurrency, the Dark Web, financial manipulation and undercover operations, while presenting Alex's progression from a financially struggling young man to an international cybercriminal.
