The Routledge Handbook of Wittgenstein and Other Philosophers [Khani]
#1
The Routledge Handbook of Wittgenstein and Other Philosophers: Part 1 is a forthcoming academic collection (Copyright 2027, 682 pages) edited by Ali Hossein Khani and Gary N. Kemp, published as part of the Routledge Handbooks in Philosophy series. The book sets out to trace Ludwig Wittgenstein's enormous and often contested influence on twentieth- and twenty-first-century philosophy, noting that interpreting both his early and late thought remains a source of ongoing scholarly disagreement.

The volume is organized into three chronological parts, each pairing a major philosopher with a specialist contributor who examines that figure's engagement with Wittgenstein. Part 1 covers "pre-1960 influences" — contemporaries and near-contemporaries such as Frank Ramsey, Bertrand Russell, Rudolf Carnap, Gilbert Ryle, Elizabeth Anscombe, Peter Geach, Nelson Goodman, Paul Grice, P.F. Strawson, and Ruth Barcan Marcus.

Part 2, "post-1960 influences," is the largest section, spanning figures like Wilfrid Sellars, W.V.O. Quine, Donald Davidson, David Lewis, Michael Dummett, Hilary Putnam, Stanley Cavell, Bernard Williams, Richard Rorty, Saul Kripke, John Searle, Thomas Nagel, Simon Blackburn, John McDowell, Crispin Wright, and Noam Chomsky. This section illustrates how Wittgenstein's later philosophy of language and mind rippled through analytic philosophy's major debates on meaning, mind, and rule-following.

Part 3 turns to "current philosophers and their Wittgensteins," featuring contributions written by the philosophers themselves — including Cora Diamond, Charles Travis, Robert Brandom, Colin McGinn, Paul Horwich, Penelope Maddy, Paul Boghossian, A.W. Moore, and a joint chapter by Annalisa Coliva, Danièle Moyal-Sharrock, and Duncan Pritchard on the "Hinge Epistemology Program." The book opens with an overview chapter by P.M.S. Hacker, a leading Wittgenstein scholar, and totals 40 chapters in all.
