Infinity (1996) is an American biographical romantic drama about physicist Richard Feynman, directed by and starring Matthew Broderick. The film focuses less on Feynman’s scientific achievements and more on his relationship with Arline Greenbaum, his first wife. Their romance begins during their youth and continues as Feynman pursues his studies and scientific career. When Arline develops lymphatic tuberculosis, the couple faces the devastating consequences of her illness. The story eventually follows Feynman to Los Alamos, where he works on the Manhattan Project, while Arline’s declining health leads to her death in Albuquerque.

The film is based primarily on Feynman’s autobiographical books Surely You’re Joking, Mr. Feynman! and What Do You Care What Other People Think?, written with Ralph Leighton. Rather than portraying Feynman simply as a scientific genius, Infinity presents a more intimate and personal portrait, emphasizing love, loss, family, science, and grief. Broderick deliberately chose to concentrate on a particular period of Feynman’s life rather than structure the movie around his later fame or the Challenger disaster.
