Sneakers (1992) - mklabgr - 09-28-2026 Sneakers (1992) is an American comedy thriller directed by Phil Alden Robinson, starring Robert Redford, Dan Aykroyd, Ben Kingsley, River Phoenix, Sidney Poitier, and others. The story follows Martin Bishop, a former hacker who now leads a team of security specialists in San Francisco. The team is hired by people claiming to be NSA agents to recover a mysterious black-box device called Setec Astronomy. They soon discover that the device is actually a powerful codebreaker capable of penetrating highly secure computer systems, turning what initially appears to be a routine job into a dangerous conspiracy involving government agencies, organized crime, surveillance, and stolen identities. The film combines computer hacking, cryptography, mathematics, espionage, and humor, while exploring the dangers of possessing technology capable of breaking secure communications. Martin eventually discovers that his old friend Cosmo is behind the conspiracy and intends to use the device to manipulate financial and ownership records. Rather than allowing the technology to fall into anyone's hands, Martin removes its crucial component, making it useless. Sneakers was released in 1992, received generally positive reviews. Interestingly, mathematician Leonard Adleman, a pioneer of modern cryptography and one of the creators of RSA, served as a mathematical consultant for the film. FILM |
