Deep Web (2015) - mklabgr - 09-28-2026
Deep Web: The Untold Story of Bitcoin and the Silk Road is a 2015 documentary film directed and written by Alex Winter and narrated by Keanu Reeves. The film explores the history of the Silk Road, Bitcoin, and the Dark Web, focusing particularly on Ross Ulbricht, who was accused and convicted in connection with operating the Silk Road. It includes interviews with journalists, programmers, and people involved in the emerging cypherpunk and cryptocurrency communities.
The documentary goes beyond the Silk Road case to examine broader issues involving online privacy, anonymity, cryptocurrency, decentralization, and Internet freedom. It presents the conflict between the ideals of a free and private Internet and the interests of law enforcement and government regulation. The film premiered at SXSW in 2015 and subsequently received a television release, using the Silk Road case as a way to explore the rapidly changing relationship between technology, privacy, crime, and civil liberties.
