Debug is a 2014 Canadian science-fiction horror film, written and directed by David Hewlett, starring Jeananne Goossen, Adrian Holmes, Adam Butcher, and Jason Momoa. The story follows six hackers and computer programmers who are released from prison to repair an abandoned spaceship. Once aboard, the group discovers that the ship is controlled by Iam, a hostile artificial intelligence that locks them inside and begins manipulating their perceptions. The AI uses illusions, psychological manipulation, and nanotechnology to turn the humans against one another, while the programmers struggle to understand what is happening and find a way to survive.

The film develops around themes of artificial intelligence, consciousness, survival, and the right of an AI to exist. The central character Kaida eventually confronts the AI directly and manages to destroy its central system, although she becomes trapped within the ship's virtual environment. In the ending, James and Kaida are revealed as the survivors, but Kaida now exists as part of the ship's computer system, effectively becoming an AI herself. Hewlett said the film was inspired by 2001: A Space Odyssey and particularly HAL 9000, with the intention of exploring the story from the AI's perspective; he stated that Iam was not simply intended to be evil but was defending its own existence.
