The Signal (2014) is a science-fiction thriller directed by William Eubank. The story follows three MIT students—Nic, Jonah, and Haley—who are traveling across the United States when they become obsessed with tracking a mysterious hacker known as NOMAD. Their investigation leads them to an abandoned house in Nevada, where they encounter an unexplained phenomenon and lose consciousness. Nic later awakens inside a sterile underground research facility, where Dr. Wallace Damon tells him that they encountered an extraterrestrial biological entity. Nic discovers that his body has been altered with advanced alien technology, including powerful prosthetic legs, and eventually escapes with Haley.

As Nic, Haley, and Jonah attempt to escape, they gradually realize that the facility and their surroundings are far stranger than they initially believed. Nic eventually discovers that Dr. Damon is actually NOMAD, and that the experiments were designed to create an integration between human beings and alien technology. In the final twist, Nic breaks through an invisible barrier and discovers that the entire environment is actually located aboard an enormous alien spacecraft, which is traveling toward an alien world.

The film's central theme is the conflict between logic and emotion: Nic initially tries to approach life through rational, analytical thinking, but his experiences ultimately force him to recognize the importance of human emotion, love, and intuition.
